Quote 5240

Nelson Mandela
As I walked out the door toward the gate that would lead to my freedom, I knew if I didn't leave my bitterness and hatred behind, I'd still be in prison.

Context / explanation

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Living_History

In the book the quote starts with: "The day his imprisonment ended, he told me, "as I walked out the door ...". I cannot imagine Mandela told Clinton this personally but more in a figurative sense. He was released Feb. 11th 1990. That time George Bush was President and she was First Lady of Arkansas.
